Shortly after noon Sunday, Goldsboro resident Sandra Melvin, 58, was shot in the leg.
According to Goldsboro police, it is unclear whether she was leaving St. Mark Church of Christ on West Ash Street or whether she was walking in front of the church when she was shot in the upper right leg. Ms. Melvin, of West Oak Street, was taken by EMS to Wayne Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released. She told police she does not know who shot her or where the shots came from.
A witness said he was getting out of his car when he heard the two shots, but did not see anyone in the area at the time.
Police performed a search of the area but did not locate a crime scene or evidence.
Police Sgt. Chad Calloway said investigators will begin looking into the incident this morning.
"We would obviously love to get some kind of resolution. But from reading the report, it doesn't sound as if there's a lot to go on by the way of evidence," he said. "But we'll give it everything we got and hopefully come to some kind of resolution."
