The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is still searching for two unidentified males who allegedly were present when a Dudley man was shot in the upper thigh during an invasion of his home.
Detective Lt. Carl Lancaster said early this morning that in addition to the arrest of Darrell Dwayne Hicks, 18, of Hinnant Road, two other suspects are being sought for the incident that reportedly took place the afternoon of July 2.
"That's correct, we're still looking at the possibility of two more who could be involved in it," Lancaster said.
The men are described as black males who had their faces covered, possibly by bandannas, the lieutenant said.
Hicks has already been charged with first-degree burglary and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was jailed under a $200,000 bond.
The incident started with an emergency call from victim Antonio Wright at his Hideaway Circle home around 4:15 a.m., the Sheriff's Office said.
Wright told authorities he found three intruders inside his living room after he heard a loud crash.
When he confronted the suspects, Hicks allegedly shot the homeowner in the thigh.
The alleged victim headed back to the bedroom, where he retrieved a firearm, but told authorities the suspects had fled by the time he returned.
Detectives, including Lancaster, conducted interviews for hours afterward at Hideaway Circle, a mobile home community in the Dudley area.
Lancaster said arrests may be pending, but asked anyone with information to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
