A Fremont man was arrested Saturday after allegedly firing a gun in town limits.

William Henry Campbell, 66, of N. Dock Street, was charged with assault by pointing a gun, discharging a firearm in city limits, driving while impaired, no operator's license and reckless driving after witnesses said he fired a weapon at Bootleggers around 10 p.m. Saturday night, according to the police report.

Witnesses told police he was angry with his girlfriend and threatened to shoot her and another man, pointed the gun at them, then fired a shot, possibly into the air, before leaving the bar with his girlfriend. Fremont and Pikeville police then pulled Campbell over and placed him under arrest.

Officers found a 30-30 rifle with one spent round in the chamber of the gun and four live rounds in the weapon. They also found a folding pocket knife on Campbell and blood smears on the back of the passenger seat.

Campbell was taken to the magistrate's office where Magistrate S.M. Jordan placed him under at $2,000. Campbell immediate posted bail and is no longer in custody.
