Host families are being sought in the Wayne County area for foreign exchange students who will be spending several weeks in America this summer through East Carolina University's exchange program.
Ten students from Spain will be in eastern North Carolina between June 30 and July 28 .
Ten students from France will be in the region June 19 through July 10 or July 10 through Aug. 7.
There will be two language teachers in addition to the students.
The exchange students will not attend classes and will participate in their host family's daily life and activities. Each student has a minimum proficiency level in English, is fully insured and brings spending money.
Hosts need not to have children to qualify.
After a home visit, each student or foreign language teacher will be matched with a family according to gender, activities and interests. The same opportunity is made available to American high school students in France or Spain. "It presents a unique opportunity to learn about the French or Spanish culture first hand outside the classroom," said Professor Frédéric Fladenmuller, who helps place the students in area homes.
