Smith Chapel VFD receives grant

The Smith Chapel Volunteer Fire Department has received a $5,430 grant through the 2009 Volunteer Fire Department Fund from the State of North Carolina.
The money will be used to help buy needed equipment. The equipment is purchased using matching funds and must be approved by the Department of Insurance Office of State Fire Marshal.
Smith Chapel has received a total of $161,159.33 from the Volunteer Fire Department Fund since the program was created 23 years ago.
The General Assembly created the Volunteer Fire Department Fund to help volunteer units raise money for equipment and supplies. The grant funds must be matched dollar-for-dollar.
