The Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross will have a bone marrow and blood drive April 13 from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Be The Match will be held at the chapter house, 600 N. George St.

Be the Match provides an opportunity for all patients to receive the transplant therapy they need when they need it.

The Red Cross estimates that a marrow transplant could benefit more than 10,000 children and adults each year. About 70 percent of patients who need a marrow transplant don't have a matched donor in their family and depend on the Be the Match registry to fund an unrelated donor.

Marrow donors must be between 18 and 60. There is a maximum weight limit depending on your height.

For medical guidelines for marrow donors, log onto www.bethematch.org.

Blood donors must be at least 17 (16 with signed parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.

For more information about the blood and bone marrow drive, call the Red Cross office at 735-7201.
