A Goldsboro woman who had worked as a bookkeeper at Carver Heights Elementary since the summer of 2007 is accused of embezzling funds from the school.
Bridgette Brown James, 43, of Brock Street faces one count of embezzlement, and was jailed under a $10,000 unsecured bond.
Goldsboro police did not release the amount of money that Ms. James is accused of taking.
Wayne County School spokesman Ken Derksen said that Ms. James is no longer an employee of the school system, but that he could not comment further because the situation involves a personnel matter.
Derksen said the school system terminated Ms. James' contract on Wednesday.
"I can't really speak to the detail, but the police are investigating," Derksen said.
According to police, the Wayne County school district made the initial complaint in the matter.
Ms. James has been released on an unsecured bond.
