Former Smithsonian program manager and curator John W. Franklin will give a special Black History Month presentation tomorrow at the Wayne County Museum.

Franklin specializes in the history and traditions of communities of the African Diaspora. He has previously developed programs on Senegal, the Bahamas, Cape Verde and Washington, D.C., for the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

Franklin will serve as director of partnerships and international programs for the future National Museum of African American History and Culture, which is slated to be constructed next to the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., in 2012-2015.

He will discuss his current work in presenting the new museum to colleagues in museums, universities, libraries and cultural organizations, a task that has taken Franklin across the United States, Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and South America.

The program at 7 p.m. Friday at the museum in downtown Goldsboro is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Wayne County Museum at 734-5023.
