Remembering innocence lost

Wayne County for Children Council member Jennifer Dupuis lights a memory candle to symbolize one of the 33 children who have died by the hand of a parent or caregiver in North Carolina in 2008-09 during the fifth annual Life Lights for Children at the Berkeley Mall. The event remembers the children who have suffered abuse and raises awareness for their plight. Last year 122,672 children were reported as being abused or neglected in North Carolina.
