The Stop the Funeral Initiative and its covenant partners, in recognition of the importance of Black History Month, will host a viewing of Cash Michaels' film "Obama in N.C. -- The Pathway to History"

It will be shown tonight from 7 until 9:30 at the Victory Faith Center at 805 U.S. 13 South.

Produced, written and narrated by veteran award-winning black newspaper journalist Cash Michaels of The Carolinian and Wilmington Journal, this film not only explores some of the unforgettable events in North Carolina during the 2008 presidential campaign that helped elect the first black to the White House, but the historic path carved from the post-Reconstruction Jim Crow era of the early 1900s through the tumultuous '60s Civil Rights Movement and beyond in North Carolina, that eventually helped made the election of Barack Obama as president possible.

Michaels will appear in person to present his film, which had its first theater premiere earlier this month in Cary.

The national 2010 Black History Theme is "The History of Black Economic Empowerment" and the issue of drug and gang violence in our community is an economic issue.

The film reveals some critical pieces of history and sheds light on historical events that have impacted the politics and economics of our communities today.

The Stop the Funeral Initiative covenant partners understand that it is critical for ther community to understand its history. Education is key. Members must learn to must disassociate themselves from drugs, gangs, and violent activity which discourage economic empowerment.

The public is encouraged to attend. Youth groups are issued a special invitation. There is no charge. Seating is limited, so don't be late. DVD's of the film will be available a portion of the proceeds going to support the Stop the Funeral Initiative's work. Additional information on economic empowerment and opportunities available for our community will be available as well.
