Wayne Veterinary Hospital celebrated its new state of the art facility with an open house this weekend.
The facility is open for tours today from 2-5 p.m. at 2004 U.S. 117 Bypass North. The construction for the new facility began in October 2008 and was completed a year later.
"We wanted to be able to take better care of our patients with a new, modern building," Dr. George R. Silver said.
The open house features the veterinary hospital's four exam rooms, a special procedures room, a surgery room, an ICU, an isolation room for animals with infectious diseases, a dental area, a digital x-ray room, and a surgical laundry room.
In addition, the hospital also makes its own oxygen for the animals for oxygen therapy and oxygen cages, among other things.
"You can use oxygen much more liberally because you aren't buying it by the tank," Dr. Silver said.
In another part of the facility there is also a cat ward, cat kennels for boarding, dog kennels for boarding, walk-in bath tubs, four VIP suites for people who want to board their animal alone and a grooming area.
Dr. Silver said they decided to keep the boarding and grooming area separate from the medical treatment area to help infection control. The atmosphere is bright and clean with a lot of natural light. It also has a gas generator that can power the whole building so if the power goes out it can keep the animals warm or cool.
Wayne Veterinary Hospital accepts small and large animals, primates and some exotic animals. Dr. Silver, along with his son Dr. George R. Silver Jr., are both committed to offering the best animal care in the area."
"We provide compassion and quality medical and surgical care," Dr. Silver said.
Wayne Veterinary Hospital is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday and closed Sunday.
