WCC to hold lecture on Tuscarora War

The Tuscarora War will be the topic of this year's Native America Heritage Month lecture at Wayne Community College.
Donald Underwood Thompson, who has done extensive research on the 1711-1713 conflict, will talk about the Tuscarora tribe's attempt to stop the growth of the North Carolina colony on their land and its results on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Room 161 of the Wayne Learning Center at the college.
The lecture is hosted by the WCC Cultural Diversity Global Education Task Force.
Thompson, a La Grange resident, is the author of "Charlie and the Fightin' Mule: Plus More Down-Home Stories," a collection of short stories set in Eastern North Carolina. He is also the lead singer in The Donald Underwood Thompson Band that performs blues, vintage rhythm 'n' blues and classic rock at festivals and other venues throughout North Carolina.
The free lecture coincides with the "DRUMS" concert, being held at the Paramount Theater on Saturday to benefit the proposed First People Heritage Center. The performance will include Native American, African, Celtic, steel and modern drums.
