SEVEN SPRINGS -- Authorities are looking for a Rocky Mount man accused of stabbing and severely injuring a former girlfriend late Monday night.

Children were at the home at the time, ages 1 to 8 years, and might have been witness to the stabbing, authorities said.

Gloria Peacock is still being treated for injuries sustained after Mack Recardo Lewis, 26, whose last known address is Arlington Street Extension, allegedly kicked in Ms. Peacock's door on Park Road, Sheriff's Office Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said.

Ms. Peacock and the suspect share at least one child, according to authorities.

Lewis is wanted on active warrants listing counts of first-degree burglary and attempted murder.

He might have used two knives to attack his former girlfriend, finding a second weapon after one of the knives broke, a detective involved with the case said.

"He cut her severely," Farfour said.

Although Lewis is not accused of stealing anything from Ms. Peacock's home, he faces the first-degree burglary count because of his forced entry, Farfour added.

Lewis is also a registered sex offender, according to the N.C. Department of Justice's sex offender registry, for a conviction on a count of indecent liberties with a minor in 2007.

According to the sex offender registry, Lewis is about 5 feet 8 inches tall, about 170 pounds and has numerous tattoos, including an image of praying hands and a sun with a face and the name "Shaniyah."

The name "Gloria" is tattooed on his right arm, according to the registry.

Lewis also has a prior incarceration record, last serving time in the N.C. Department of Correction for the indecent liberties charge, according to state prisons records.

Records show he has also been convicted of possession of stolen goods, possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II drug, financial forgery and other charges.
