Southerners know food -- from shrimp and grits to fried green tomatoes -- the South has a rich history of diverse culinary delights.

The Wayne County Public Library invites the public to celebrate the good food of the South by participating in "Southern Cooking High and Low: A Short History of the Cuisine of the South,"on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Wayne County Public Library on Ash Street.

Presenter John Beck will connect Southern cooking to the cultural roots of the South by explaining the historical significance of our delectable dishes.

Understanding the favorite foods and recipes of the South provides valuable insights into our Southern culture.

The program will be presented at 1 p.m. in the Gertrude Weil Auditorium. This program is made possible through the North Carolina Humanities Council.
