The Wayne County Department of Social Services next month will take applications for the Low-Energy Assistance Program.

Applications will be taken Monday through Thursday, Nov. 2-12 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exception will be Nov. 11 when the office will be closed for Veterans Day.

Applications also will be taken at the WAGES Mount Olive Nutrition Site, 711 N. Center St., Nov. 4-9, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Fremont Town Hall, 120 E. Main St., Nov. 5-9, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Persons who apply between these dates and meet eligibility requirements will receive a one-time check in February.

Most of the households that were active in the Food and Nutrition Services Program on Sept. 30 with a certification date of October or later will automatically receive an energy check in February. Those households do not need to apply and will receive a notice in the mail regarding automatic approval.

Some active Food Stamp households are screened out from automatically receiving an energy check and will be notified this month reminding them to apply to person. Persons who do not receive a notice should visit the Social Services office and apply in person.

Anyone who does not receive Food and Nutrition Services must apply in person during the application period and provide verification of their October income.
