Strong Able Youth Speaking Out -- the group also known as SaySo -- will hold its annual "Give a Child a Smile" project for USA Today's 19th Annual Make a Difference Day on Saturday.

SaySo's goal is to collect new suitcases and duffle bags to provide to more than 5,000 foster children in North Carolina.

These children and teens typically move into foster care and throughout the system with their belongings in trash bags.

SaySo (comprised of current and former foster teens) hopes to bring dignity and smiles to the faces of thousands of foster children.

Suitcases will be collected from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Wayne Uplift at 1906 Edgerton St.

Tax receipts will be available as well as all donations are tax deductible.

USA Today's Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of volunteerism. SaySo's "Give a Child a Smile" project is registered under this foundation.

In previous years, USA Today awarded SaySo one of the two state awards for their hard work and collaboration with other groups. We are encouraging community residents to donate a duffel bag as duffels are easier for children to carry. You may also donate personal hygiene items.
