Frank Graves, 56, of Goldsboro is in critical condition after an overnight collision on I-95, according to North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center officials.

Graves suffered third-degree burns on about 50 percent of his body after the tanker he was driving rolled and caught on fire, according to Highway Patrol First. Sgt. E.L. Montgomery.

The wreck happened around 11:30 Monday night in Cumberland County when Charles Alphin, 35, of Dunn, stopped his pickup truck on the freeway because he ran out of gas. Carlos Bolden, 46, of St. Louis, Mo., was driving a tractor-trailer and stopped to assist Alphin, who was pushing his truck off the road.

Montgomery said Graves, in an attempt to miss the pickup truck, swerved and hit the tractor-trailer before rolling the tanker that then caught on fire.

Graves was taken to the Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill and was listed in critical condition as of this morning.

Alphin was charged with impeding traffic, Montgomery said.
