Two area schools received donations recently to increase their media collections.

Charles B. Aycock High School media center was awarded a $750 grant from the ExxonMobile Educa-tional Alliance program to support the library collection, while Fremont STARS Elementary School received $500 worth of books from the First Marketplace Book Company through a partnership with Target Stores.

Worsley Operating Corp. of Wilmington helped secure the ExxonMobile grant for Aycock. It was one of 2,400 nationwide available to schools located in areas served by Exxon or Mobil stations. The school will use the funds to enhance its math and science collections.

In addition to enhancing its book collection, Fremont will also get a facelift. Employees from the Goldsboro Target will be painting a new mural in the media center.

The volunteers are expected to begin the first phase of painting this week.

"We are very appreciative of the support provided by ExxonMobile and Target to our school media centers," said Olivia Pierce, the district's executive director for community relations, media and technology.

"Keeping our media center resources relevant and up to date is very important and those grants will certainly help in enhancing the media center collections at both Charles B. Aycock High and Fremont STARS Elemen-tary."
