Parental involvement in the schools is still a vital part of education, and will be the focus of a free seminar on Thursday at the H.V. Brown Center on Poplar Street.

This is the 13th year for the Wayne County Public Schools' Title I program, featuring 12 presenters providing information that will help students academically and socially.

"Empowering Parents for Student Success" will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Special keynote speaker will be the Honorable Paul Hardinson, a district court judge from Onslow County.

Among the workshops planned are "Understanding and Developing Your Child's Ability to Learn," "Paying Yourself First," "Internet Bullying" and "Self-Esteem and Student Achievement."

"Parents are a child's first and most important teacher," said Tomekia Hutchins, WCPS Title I Parent Facilitator. "Our district is deeply committed to providing training sessions for parents that will enable them to help their children succeed in school."

Lunch and child care will be provided.
