Vandals slow down Northeast students

Vandalism on several school buses at Northeast Elementary School delayed students' arrival this morning.

Ken Derksen, public information officer for Wayne County Public Schools, said "multiple buses were damaged but three were unable to get on the road."

Officials had to check out the buses, making sure they could pass inspection, before sending drivers out on routes, Derksen said.

"Three buses did not roll. We had to get a replacement bus" for each, he said. "A Honeywell notice was sent out notifying parents that there were delays. We appreciate parents' patience with that."

Investigation in the vandalism incident is pending, Derksen added.

Most of the damages reported were to back windows of the buses.
