Kidnapper composite drawing released

This composite drawing of the man suspected of kidnapping and assaulting Kimberly Diane Matthews was released today by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The suspect is described as a white male, in his 40s, approximately 5-feet-7 inches, 220 pounds, a blister above a missing a front tooth on the upper left of his mouth, with blond graying hair, thin on top, with a thin mustache and beard. He was last seen wearing a green pull over shirt and khaki cargo shorts.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the Halifax County Sheriff's Office are investigating a report of a woman being kidnapped, physically assaulted and robbed.

Late Tuesday night, Richard Earl Moore reported Kimberly Diane Matthews missing.

He told authorities that she was last seen at about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday when she left to go to work but had not returned home.

At approximately 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Miss Matthews was found by a Highway Patrolman in Halifax County. She was suffering from being physically assaulted.

The Halifax County Sheriff's Office contacted and assisted Wayne County Sheriff's Office in the investigation, and detectives from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office drove to Halifax County to further the investigation.

Miss Matthews reported that she was driving on U.S. 13 South in Wayne County when she saw a person walking beside the road that she thought she knew.

When she stopped to offer a ride to the individual she realized that she did not know the person. The individual got in her car and wanted a ride to Newton Grove.

Miss Matthews reported that she was assaulted by the person in the Jordans Chapel area and was then forced to drive him around until they ended up in Halifax County where her vehicle ran out of gas.

She was then assaulted again and robbed of her jewelry, purse and cell phone.

Wayne County Sheriff's Office Det. Sgt. Tammy Odom and Det. Larry Mitchell are investigating the case.
