Wayne County Services on Aging will celebrate September as Senior Citizen Month with an open house at the Senior Center, 100 S. John St., from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
There will be free refreshments, free geriatric depression screenings and memory screenings, free blood pressure and blood sugar checks, senior health insurance information program volunteers on hand to answer questions, in-home aide progaram staff to answer questions, and an information and referral specialiast to answer questions about services available to seniors in Wayne County.
Information about senior tours also will be given out, and art, crafts, jewelry and other handmade items from seniors will be on display and for sale. Additionally, tours of the center will be given, raffle prizes awarded to people who fill out the interest survey, and line dancing and self defense demonstrations will be given at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively. Wii demonstrations will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., and local farmer Travis Uzzell will display and sell his produce, along with a health department display on senior nutrition.
