Police are still investigating a burglary over the weekend at an East Ash Street pawnshop after thieves allegedly entered through the roof.

Authorities estimated around $25,000 in property was stolen from Goldsboro Jewelry and Pawn.

Goldsboro police Sgt. Chad Calloway said an investigator responded to the pawnshop around 8 a.m. on Saturday when the incident was reported.

The burglary happened sometime on Friday night, police said.

The suspects also cut wires to an alarm system, according to the report.

After entering the top of the building, the suspects took various coins and jewelry and opened at least one safe inside the store, Calloway said.

Calloway said lead Investigator Bryant Canady had not told him what the thieves used to allegedly cut a hole in the roof.

The owner of the pawn- shop said he did not want to comment, but noted that entering through the ceiling is a common method for pawnshop burglars, in his experience.
