A local businessman is urging Wayne County residents to help him raise awareness about the health care reform bill currently being debated across the nation.

GOECO president Frank Drohan has organized what he is calling the "Citizen's Rally," an event scheduled for 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday focused on giving anyone with an opinion on the matter a forum to express themselves.

Those on both sides of the debate are welcome, he said -- "to wear T-shirts, bring posters and get their views out there."

Copies of the 1,018-page health care reform bill will be available for those who attend, Drohan added.

"(The rally) isn't against anything and it isn't for anything," he said. "We just want people to be aware."

So he hopes hundreds will converge on the lawn along Center Street across from the police and fire complex.

"This proposal is changing the face of America. This is bringing a lot of anger out in people," Drohan said. "People are sick and tired of having things crammed down their throats. They need to express themselves."

Especially in a town like Goldsboro, where people rarely rally behind a cause, he added.

"People in Goldsboro don't really get out and gather for a cause," he said. "So let's do it. Let's talk about this issue. Let's negotiate."
