Progress Energy officials this afternoon announced a $900 million project to build a new natural gas-fuel fired power plant at Goldsboro.
The new plant that should be operational in early 2013 will replace the three coal-fired units now in use at the Lee plant on the Neuse River southwest of Goldsboro.
The projects is expected to create up to 5o0 construction jobs over the 24-month building process.
