Filing period for 2009 elections opens July 6

The start of the filing period for the county's November municipal and sanitary district board elections is less than a month away.
Candidate filing begins Monday, July 6, and runs through Friday, July 17, at noon for five of the county's seven municipalities and five of its seven sanitary district boards.
The next Goldsboro and Fremont elections are not until 2011.
The election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3. The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The voter registration deadline is Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.
Absentee voting by mail begins Oct. 5. One-stop ab-sentee voting begin Oct. 15 and runs through Oct. 31 at 1 p.m.
All of the elections are non-partisan.
MOUNT OLIVE
The mayor and entire five-member board are up for re-election. The filing fee is $24 for mayor and $6 for commissioner.
Ray McDonald Sr. is the mayor and board members are Ray Thompson, at-large; Kenny Talton, District 1; Hosea Manley, District 2; Lloyd Warren, District 3; and Gene Lee, District 5.
The mayor and commissioners serve two-year terms.
EUREKA
The filling fees are $5 for both mayor and town board.
Mayor Steven Howell and Commissioner Billy Martin are up for re-election. Also open is the seat left vacant by the death of Wayne Taylor.
Members of the five-person board serve staggered four-year terms. The mayor also serves a four-year term.
PIKEVILLE
Filing fees are $5 for both mayor and commissioner. The four-year board terms are staggered. The mayor also serves a four-year term.
Up for election are Mayor Herb Sieger and Commissioners Lyman Galloway and Edith McClenny. There are five people on the board.
SEVENSPRINGS
Filing fees are $5 for both mayor and commissioner. The five-member board serves staggered four-year terms. The mayoral term is two years.
Facing re-election are Mayor Stephen Potter and Commissioner Rodoph Adams. The seat held by Lisa Cash is also up for election. Ms. Cash was appointed to the board in 2008.
WALNUTCREEK
Mayor Darrell Horne and council member Kathy Daniels face re-election.
Filing fees are $5 for mayor and council. The four-year terms on the five-member board are staggered.
SANITARYBOARDS
Five of the county's seven sanitary boards have embers up for election -- Belfast-Patetown, Eastern Wayne, Fork Township, Southeastern Wayne and Southern Wayne.
The filing fee is $5 and members serve four-year terms.
Facing re-election are:
Belfast-Patetown: Edwin B. Beamon, Landis Davis, Fred Newcomb, C. Ray Sullivan and Ben Casey Jr.
Eastern Wayne: Daryl R. Anderson, Jerry Bean, Billie V. Lee, Carl Mozingo and Kivett Ivey.
Fork Township: Henry Braswell, Donald C. Neal and Dexter Taylor.
Southeastern Wayne: Charlie M.B. Holloway, Sam Casey, Edith S. Smith, James A. Taylor and Bobby Outlaw.
Southern Wayne: Sally Rawls Bowles and Dale Gainey.
