School is out and summer has unofficially arrived, and the Goldsboro Jaycees are busy organizing the third annual Fourth of July celebration.

This year's parade will be held Saturday, July 4, at 11 a.m. in downtown Goldsboro and will feature local officials, fire trucks, marching bands and many other entrants. Walkers can register for free to march in the parade, while most other entries will have a $15 fee.

The festivities will continue after the parade with a street festival planned to run from immediately after the parade until 4 p.m. at Cornerstone Commons, the 100 block of East Chestnut Street and the 200 block of South Center Street. The street festival will feature arts and crafts vendors and antique cars. Organizers are still looking for vendors and vintage car entries. Vendor fees are $15 and it is free to display antique cars.

Kids will have their own special carnival, including static displays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. by the Fire Department, Police Department, Sheriff's Office and the military.

The Jaycees will also celebrate Independence Day by collecting non-perishable items such as board games, cards and snacks to make care packages for deployed troops as part of the new Goldsboro Gratitude Project.

June 29 is the deadline for applications to participate in the parade or festival. Both the applications may be picked up at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce at 308 North William Street, and can also be received by email. Contact goldsboro_jaycee@ yahoo.com to receive a copy.

Completed applications may be mailed to the Goldsboro Jaycees, P.O. Box 463, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533, but they must be received by June 29 to avoid a late fee.
