WCC club wins state honors

Wayne Community College's of Phi Beta Lambda business education student organization was honored during the organization's 55th annual State Leadership Conference in Raleigh.
The Gamma Chi chapter competed against delegates from 38 North Carolina universities and colleges.
WCC's chapter was recognized for having the largest delegation, largest membership, largest increase in membership, and largest percentage increase in membership in the eastern region and third largest increase in membership in the state.
It received the Terry Lowrance Leadership Award for the fourth consecutive year. The Lowrance award recognizes outstanding local chapters that have actively participated in Phi Beta Lambda state and national conferences, projects, programs, and publicity and membership activities throughout the year.
Individual competitions winners included Andrew Smith, first place in accounting principles and second place in economic analysis and decision making; Shelby Bigham, second in computer applications and fifth in word processing; Donald Moore, second in information management; Ryan Bostick, fourth in telecommunications; Phillip Parry, fourth in macroeconomics; Clint Bland, fourth in computer applications and justice administration; Julie Stanley, fourth in job interview and seventh in management concepts; and April Richardson, seventh in cyber security.
In team competition, Jim McCullough and Jason Brogden took first place in digital video production. Moore and Bostick earned third place in business decision making and Ms. Richardson and Erik Ramsey, fifth in network design.
The winners of individual and team events are eligible to compete at the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif. this summer.
Leanna Greene and Ms. Stanley earned the Director level of the career and membership achievement program.
Certificates for participation in the State Leadership Development Program alo went to Parry, McCullough, Brogden, Smith, Bland, Bigham, Ms. Stanley, Bostick, Ms. Richardson, Moore, Joshua Parker, Stacy Bynum, Sherronda Darden and Erik Ramsey.
Chapter advisors at the college are Tracy Schmeltzer and Michael Everett III.
