The Financial Crimes Unit of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office has received complaints concerning a telephone scam.

Investigators are warning residents of suspects contacting people by telephone and offering to lower their credit card interest rates. In one case they stated that they could lower the rates down to 6.25 percent.

The suspect then asked for the person's credit card account numbers.

However, this person was not fooled and contacted the state Attorney General's Office and the Sheriff's Office.

Also, the Caller ID number was spoofed, the suspect had a foreign accent and said it was a free service and that he worked for VISA and MasterCard.

More information concerning this case may be obtained by calling Lt. Tom Flores at 731-1487.
