The Wayne County Public Schools will present the All-County Band Festival on Thursday night at 7 in the Dillard Middle School auditorium.
Sixty-five middle school instrumentalists from 10 schools were selected to make up the middle school band. They will present three pieces: "March of the Irish Guard" arranged by James Ployhar, "When Summer Takes Flight" by Robert W. Smith and "Heart and Soul" arranged by Paul Cook.
Twenty-six high school instrumentalists from six schools make up the high school band. They will perform "The Fairest of the Fair" by John Sousa, "Jericho" by William Himes and "Rhapsody on American Shaped Note Melodies" by James Curnow.
Two renowned clinicians have been invited to conduct the two bands. Dr. Sherri-Marcia Damon, instrumental music director and assistant professor of music education at Mount Olive College, will direct the middle school students. Randy Guptill, a retired musician and music educator who recently served as visiting instructor of euphonium at East Carolina University, will direct the high school band.
