State surplus furniture sale to begin Thursday

RALEIGH -- The State Surplus Property Agency of the N.C. Department of Administration is taking bids for approximately 200 lots of custom-made furniture and accessories seized by the N.C. Department of Revenue's Unauthorized Substance Tax Division.

Surplus will begin accepting sealed bids for the first of two groups of items in these lots on Thursday. The second group will go on bid April 24. Bids for the items posted online by 3 p.m. Thursday must be entered before 1 p.m. April 23. Bids for items advertised by 3 p.m. April 24 must be entered before 1 p.m. May 7.

Seized from a furniture manufacturer in Catawba County, the approximately 300 items include plush sofas and chairs upholstered in exotic leathers and brocades, as well as numerous accessories and bolts of upholstery fabric. By 3 p.m. Thursday, photos and descriptions of each lot to be offered in the first group may be viewed on the State Surplus Property website, www.ncstatesurplus.com. Items also may be viewed between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Surplus Warehouse at 6501 Chapel Hill Road, N.C. 54 West.

Items in the second group will be posted online and available for public viewing on April 24.

All bidders must pre-register prior to placing a bid. All items are sold "as is" and must be paid for in full and removed within approximately 15 days after an award. All sales are final and no refunds will be made.
