Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders wants county residents to know that a mailing from the North Carolina Sheriff's Association does not benefit him directly, although he is a member of the organization.
Many Wayne residents have already received the mailing or soon will.
All of the state's 100 sheriffs are members of the organization simply by virtue of having been elected to their office. The state organization solicits funds for use in its programs, which indirectly benefit the Wayne Sheriff's Office, but Winders said he wants people to understand that simply because his name is attached that it is not designed to be a fundraiser for his office nor a campaign flyer to get him re-elected.
The funds do help the sheriff's offices around the state with training, and lobbying lawmakers.
