The Wayne County Humane Society's second annual "Save the Animals" telethon will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday on PACC-10 TV.

Funds from the telethon will go toward the $150,000 pledged from the Society for the county's new Animal Adoption and Education Center. The group has raised about $140,000 so far.

In addition, the funds will be used for educational programs aimed at raising awareness of animal cruelty issues.

The telethon will be co-hosted by Thomas Vick and Suzanne Tyner, president of the Humane Society.

Videos from the Humane Society of the United States, the dedication of the Animal Adoption and Education Center and a special video tour of the shelter will be shown throughout the evening.

Local veterinarian Dr. Stan Griffith will provide a history of the animal shelter and there will be interviews with groomers and dog trainers.

Animal Control Director Justin Scally will bring some adoptable animals and Jean Hollowell will discuss spay and neuter programs.

Other topics to be discussed include therapy dogs, military dogs rescued, natural disaster planning for pets and food distribution.
