Student had marijuana

A 15-year-old student at Charles B. Aycock was found with three small bags of marijuana in his possession on Friday, the Wayne County Sheriff's office reported. The Sheriff's Office reported on Tuesday that the 15-year-old was released to his mother after a juvenile petition was filed against the Pikeville-area teen, the Sheriff's Office said.

Fire investigation

The Wayne County Sheriff's office says the cause of a fire at an abandoned Moye Road residence outside of Fremont is still under investigation. Fremont Volunteer Fire Chief Danny Tillman reported the fire, which caused an estimated $20,000 in damages, according to a Sheriff's Office report. Authorities said they couldn't readily determine an owner of the home, and sealed the scene for investigation.
