A 19-year-old accused of stealing nine pit bull puppies threw one of the puppies out of his apartment window as investigators closed in, Goldsboro police said.

Jermel Shy'Kymn Jamison, 19, of Courtyard Circle was charged with animal cruelty, possession of a stolen dog and possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, police said.

Investigator Dwayne Bevell said the puppy was thrown from a second-story window when police tried to enter Jamison's home. The puppy, valued at approximately $200, was recovered and was not severely injured.

Jamison allegedly also had 2.5 grams of marijuana, Bevell reported, leading to the possession with intent to sell charges.

Jamison was jailed under a $4,000 secured bond.
