Suspect in Mount Olive shooting arrested

A man who allegedly made threats that he would "kill any officer who approached him" was taken into custody without incident on Thursday afternoon.
The Wayne County Sherif's office's warrant division, overseen by Lt. Carter Hicks, had been looking for Kelly Shavon Garner, 22, who has lived in both Dudley and at two addresses in Goldsboro, Hicks said.
Investigators allege Garner is responsible for the October 2008 shooting of Daniel Ray Boseman, in Mount Olive, where the original police report was filed, the lieutenant said.
Hicks said the Sheriff's Office believed it was acting on good information when it called in a Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team and the assistance of other law enforcement.
A SWAT Team, the Goldsboro Police Department and deputies with the Sheriff's Office warrant division simultaneously responded to 709-A N. George St. on Thursday afternoon.
But despite the alleged threats against "any police officer who approached," Garner was arrested without incident, Sheriff Carey Winders said.
"These officers did a good job on this one," Winders said. "Obviously, this is a dangerous individual who would be making these kind of threats on law enforcement.
"I'm glad that the officers were able to handle the scene without incident," the sheriff said.
Delivering a warrant to Garner became the assignment of the Sheriff's Office, and deputies said they had reason to believe Garner would harm them.
"We had that information, that as law enforcement approached, that he would kill any law enforcement," Hicks said. "We felt like the threat was credible, based on the information we received."
