A shooting at 126 Lee's Country Club Road in Mount Olive on Tuesday night left a Goldsboro man dead from gunshot wounds, and a suspect already in jail, the town's police chief said.

Mount Olive police Chief Ralph Schroeder said police investigators got an emergency call at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday, and found Javonnie Langston, 33, of North Carolina Street, dead at the scene.

Michael Lee Shipman, 26, of South Breazeale Avenue, Mount Olive, is in the Wayne County Jail, and is being held without bond on a charge of first-degree murder, according to detention center records.

The shooting took place outside 126 Lee's Country Club Road, which is on the south side of town on U.S. 117 Alternate along the railroad tracks, almost outside of the town limits.

Lee's Country Club Road is not the listed address of either the shooter or his alleged victim.

Schroeder said the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, and that the department is not releasing many details at this time.

"It's still trying to be determined exactly what happened. We do know that there was some arguing going on between the two of them," Schroeder said. "I can't really get into a whole lot of details of the case."

Wayne County Emergency Services records from Tuesday evening show an ambulance was on the scene just seconds after police arrived, but that emergency workers did not transport of the victim.

The medical examiner also was on scene and was making arrangements for Langston to be transported to the state Medical Examiner's office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy, the Mount Olive police chief said.

Schroeder said he did not yet know how many gunshot wounds Langston suffered in the attack.
