Walnut Creek to hold final town hall meeting to hear residents' concerns

The Walnut Creek Village Council will hold its third and final town hall meeting Tuesday night.
The meeting, an open forum between residents and council members, will be held at the Walnut Creek Country Club at 7 p.m.
The regular council meeting will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Village Town Hall.
Village officials have separated the village into three districts, and are asking residents to only attend the meeting that coincides with their district. However, if for some reason those residents weren't able to attend the meeting for their district, they can attend one.
The third district includes houses along Breezewood Drive, Walnut Creek Drive and Dogwood Trail to Dobbs Place.
The council held its second town hall meeting in October with about 20 residents attending, most of whom were interested in improving public safety -- the topic that planning board member Woody Woodson said was at the top of the recent village survey.
In particular, residents said they were concerned about issues such as the need for wider roads, more speed bumps, better lighting, sidewalks and a lower speed limit.
Residents also said they thought an automated external defibrillator would be helpful in the village for those who can't wait the several minutes that it takes for emergency personnel to arrive for cardiac help.
And while the other comments were part of a long-range planning effort, that suggestion led to immediate action as the village council approved the purchase of three new defibrillators -- one for the village office and two for police vehicles -- using funds available in the current year's budget.
Residents did not support, though, the idea of nature trails through the community's woods.
