Sterling Kathleen Simmons of Goldsboro will be competing in the Nationals Inc. 2008 Miss Jr. Teen Raleigh pageant this year on Sunday, Dec. 14.

She will be competing in the Miss Jr. Teen division, one of four divisions that will have ladies, ages seven to 19, competing in modeling routines that include casual and formal wear.

She also will be judged on her interviewing skills during a panel interview, as well as on her personality during all phases of the competition.

If she wins the title of Miss Jr. Teen Raleigh, she would represent Raleigh and the surrounding communities at the Cities of America National Competition in Orlando, Fla.

Miss Simmons is looking for community organizations, businesses and individuals to sponsor her entry in the pageant.

The pageant will be held at the Durham School of the Arts, 400 N. Duke St., Durham, at 4 p.m.

Miss Simmons is the daughter of Milton and Sadie Simmons. She is a sophomore at the Wayne School of Engineering and is enrolled at Wayne Community College though the Learn and Earn program. After high school she plans to pursue a career in either bio-medical or industrial engineering.

She also is active at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, a 13-year member of A Step of Class Dance Studio and a volunteer at Rosewood Elementary School.
