Extension director will deliver MOC Founders Day speech

Wayne County Extension director Howard Scott will deliver the Founders Day address at Mount Olive College this year.
Scott has extensive ties to the college, having graduated in 1974 when it was still a two-year school, with an associate's degree. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in agriculture education and a master's degree in adult education with a minor in sociology from N.C. State University.
He is a 30-year member of the MOC board of trustees, and the first alumn invited to serve.
Tuesday will mark the 57th annual Founders Day celebration, and will be held at 11 a.m. in the Southern Bank Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
During the service, the Founders Leadership Award, sponsored by Dr. and Mrs. W. Burkette Raper, will be presented. Employees celebrating continued years of service also will be recognized.
Mount Olive College was chartered in 1951 and opened the following year with six students at Cragmont Assembly near Black Mountain. The institution was originally named Mount Allen Junior College. In 1953, the College moved to Mount Olive and the name was changed to Mount Olive College. Twenty-two students enrolled during the first collegiate year after the relocation.
The college now has six locations in the state -- Mount Olive, Research Triangle Park, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, New Bern, Washington and Wilmington -- and more than 3,300 students enrolled in its programs.
