A Dudley man accused of twice shooting a man in a Genoa travel center turned himself into authorities Monday, a detective says.

Shabazz Germaine McKinney, 36, of Georgia Farm Drive, Dudley, was found shot early Saturday morning at Downeast Travel Center on U.S. 117 South, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.

Samuel Orlando Kornegay, 30, of Genoa Road, Dudley has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and was jailed under $15,000 bond, according to a release.

McKinney said the man chased him inside the Huddle House restaurant, outside to the gas station area, shooting McKinney twice in the process, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said he had to close down the travel center, because McKinney had been shot once inside part of the complex, which combines a Huddle House restaurant with a fueling station and convenience store.

Farfour said that McKinney was shot once more outside, and was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital early on Saturday morning.

"He was treated and released, thank God," Farfour said.

The detective said some witnesses say the problem may have started at nearby Brews & Cues, where a large number of cars had congregated late on Friday night.

The detective said he is not sure what the cause of the disagreement between the two men.
