Third of county votes already cast

As of the close of voting Monday a third, or 20,700, of the county's 68,557 registered voters have taken advantage of early, one-stop voting.
One-stop voting got under way Oct. 16 and ends Saturday.
Election officials are expecting a 50- to 60- percent turnout for Tuesday's election, with about half of the votes being one-stop or early.
Meanwhile, 5 p.m. today marks the deadline to request an absentee by mail ballot. The ballot must be returned in the mail by 5 p.m. Monday.
The county has five one-stop sites: Wayne County Public Library, 1001 E. Ash St., Dudley Fire Station, 4533 U.S. 117 Alt. South at Dudley and the Woodmen of the World building, 3733 U.S. 117 North.
Those locations are open today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Wednesday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Satellite sites at the Fremont Town Hall, 120 E. Main St., Fremont, and the Johnston Ambulance Service office at 2803 U.S. 70 West will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. through Friday.
All five sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The library continues to be the busiest site, averaging 1,100 voters per day. As of Monday, 10,378 people had voted at the library, followed by Woodmen of the World, 5,476; Dudley Fire Station, 3,996; Johnston Ambulance Service, 490; and Fremont Town Hall, 360.
Elections officials said the daily totals should be appearing on the Board of Elections' Web site, www.wayne gov.com/boe.
People may register and vote at each site as well. The process requires that they furnish a photo identification that has their correct address. Lacking that, a bill, such as a utility bill with the correct address, may be used.
