Despite a soggy start, officials with the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair said this morning they are hoping for better weather for the rest of the fair's run.
"Hopefully, we'll be able to have all our normal activities today," Fair Manager Milton Ingram said this morning. "We're on sand out here and it will dry pretty quick.
"It looks like the weather is going to start improving slowly for us, anyway," Ingram added. "I'm pretty sure we're going to roll."
Thursday's downpour led organizers to cancel all of the opening day events except the open junior open meat goat show, which was held Thursday evening while rain beat down on the livestock building.
The midway and exhibit halls were closed but expected to open today as scheduled. The highlight of today's events is the Queen of the Fair Pageant, set for 8 p.m. in the entertainment arena. The open junior market hog show is scheduled for 6 p.m. Gates open at 4.
Fireworks also were scheduled to be set off at 9, weather permitting.
Forecasters were calling for a 50 percent chance of rain today and tonight, with a 20 percent chance of rain Saturday and Sunday.
The fair will run through Saturday, Oct. 4.
