The American Red Cross has partnered with several cell phone companies to allow customers to make donations to the Disaster Relief Fund.

It's called the National Text2HELP Initiative and participating companies include Alltel, AT&T, Sprint-Nextel, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.

All a wireless user has to do is text message the keyword "GIVE" to 2HELP (24357) and a $5 donation will be made. The donation will appear on your next monthly bill or be debited from a prepaid account.

"The Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to provide food, shelter, counseling and other assistance to victims of thousands of disasters across the country each year, disasters like the hurricanes of 2008," said Samia Garner, director of development for the Wayne County Chapter.

For more information, contact the local Red Cross chapter at 735-7201 or your wireless provider.
