Monterio Devon Newsome, 20, of Goldsboro, is wanted for an open count of murder.

Newsome is still at large and Goldsboro police are seeking the public's help in locating him. Call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255 with any information about Newsome's whereabouts.

Doubt was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital on Sunday evening and was later airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, police said.

Goldsboro police Sgt. Chad Calloway had reported Monday morning that investigators had solid leads and were hopeful of closing their investigation by that evening.

"We ... worked it up until late last night (Sunday), and we hope to reach a resolution sometime (this afternoon), God willing," Calloway said Monday.

He added that by 4 p.m. Monday, officials had not received an update from Pitt Memorial about a change in Doubt's condition.

But today, Goldsboro police issued a release that escalated Newsome's charges to murder, following the death of his alleged victim.

Goldsboro police have been assisted by witnesses to the crime, Calloway said.

"There were people in the area -- there were people around in the area that saw certain things," Calloway said.

Police consider Newsome "armed and dangerous," according to a news release.
