Another arrested in Brookside Mart shooting

Another person has been charged in the shooting of Ribhi Mohammed Kandeel, owner-operator of the Brookside Mart at 2000 S. Slocumb Street, police said. Joshua Earl Devon Davis, 21, South Center Street, Mount Olive, was charged Monday with attempted first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in the shooting of Kandeel, police said in a release. Kandeel has not yet recovered from the shooting, police said.

Copper theft arrests

Police say two men asked a landlord for a key to look at home they said they wanted to rent, then damaged it in an attempt to steal copper, Goldsboro police said. Mario Applewhite, 24, of Snowen Drive, Wilson and Mike Green, 24, of Atlantic Avenue were found inside the residence with cutting tools after police received a report of suspicious activity, according to a release. Applewhite and Green allegedly caused $350 in damages to the residence, and were each jailed under $2,500 bonds, police said.

Woman accused of taking pocketbook

Jamie Frowein left her purse behind at a Goldsboro bank on Aug. 18, and reported it to police. Police released a photo, taken from video surveillance, of the woman they suspected. After media coverage, Dana Michelle Smith, who has also gone by the last name Blevins, was charged with felonious larceny, police said. Smith-Blevins admitted to taking the purse, police said in a release. Bond was set at $1,500, police said.
