Migration, Human Rights Forum at MOC on September 20

MOUNT OLIVE -- The Association of Mexicans in North Carolina and Mount Olive College will host a Migration and Human Rights Forum on Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Raper Hall on the campus of Mount Olive College.
Mauricio Farah Gebara, Mexico's Inspector General of the National Commission on Human Rights, will arrive to share his perspective on the immigrant workforce in the United States, offer resources, and initiate the formation of a North Carolina Human Rights Commission.
The forum will provide interactive breakout sessions to construct a series of issues and recommendations to set the framework for much-needed protocol with regard to human rights abuses of the agricultural workforce and other immigrant groups.
The formulation of the North Carolina Human Rights Commission will strive to facilitate reporting and resolutions by addressing the circumstances that make such a commission necessary; establishing guidelines for reporting to state, national and international human rights enforcement agencies, and by addressing the role state and local governments play in the access to, or denial of, human rights in North Carolina communities, including hostile political rhetoric and legislation aimed at a particular ethnicity.
