KINSTON -- Proposed rail access to the North Carolina Global TransPark here will be the subject of an informal workshop on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Room 148 of the Global TransPark Center, 3800 Highway 58 North, Kinston.

The hearing is sponsored by the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Citizens are invited to attend and speak individually with NCDOT officials as well as review project plans. Department representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments about the project.

Citizens may also submit written comments or questions, which will be considered as project plans are refined. Additional material may be submitted for a period of 30 days from the date of the workshop. No formal presentation will be made.

The rail project is located near U.S. 70 in Kinston. It will provide single-track railroad access from the North Carolina Railroad/Norfolk Southern Railroad main line north across Hull Road, Dobbs Farm Road and C.F. Harvey Parkway ending within the TransPark.

The approximate length of the project is 4.5 miles.

The rail access will be used to carry freight into the TransPark for a variety of manufacturing and industrial facilities. The initial rail traffic will be large aircraft components moving to and from the Spirit AeroSystems site.
