Downtown Goldsboro went to the dogs Tuesday.
The Ice Cream Social and Pet Parade sponsored by the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp., the Wayne County Animal Shelter, the Humane Society and Diamonds in the Ruff drew hundreds of people and their pets to the Pedestrian Plaza for games, prizes and a chance to show off Fido.
There were poodles and Pomeranians, beagles and boxers, huskies and hounds, mixes and mutts. A big sprinkler in the center of the plaza drew children like a magnet and if they didn't feel like playing in the water, there were games, a moon walk, chalk drawings, food and music.
The winners were in four categories: smallest, largest, cutest and 'a face only a mother could love.'
Cutest went to "Maggie," a sheltie owned by Sandy Slusher. "Muffin," owned by Sandra Wilson, was second and "Baby," owned by Angel Anderson was third.
Smallest: 1st, "Roxy Jo," owned by Phyllis Ginn; 2nd, "Archie Lane," owned by Becky Jo Lane; 3rd, "Peanut," owned by Lynne Stallard.
Largest: 1st, "Bo," owned by Wimet Jones; 2nd, "Jazzey," owned by Jennifer Sparrow; 3rd, "Zipper," owned by John Peeples.
A face only a mother could love: 1st, "Windsor," owned by William and Lisa Patterson; 2nd, "Sophie," also owned by the Pattersons; 3rd: "Leonidas," owned by Josh McCall.
