Primary runoff one-stop voting to end Saturday

One-stop voting in the state Senate District 5 Democractic primary runoff will end Saturday at 1 p.m.
Facing off against each other are Snow Hill Mayor Don Davis and state Board of Education member Kathy Taft of Greenville.
Currently, all registered Democrats and those unaffiliated voters who either cast ballots in May's Democratic primary or did not vote are eligible to vote, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wayne County Board of Elections office on William Street. On Saturday, one-stop will run from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
All absentee ballots for the runoff must be turned in by 5 p.m. Monday.
Polls in 22 of Wayne County's 30 precincts will be open Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Results from the election will be available online, at both the state Board of Elections Web site, www.sboe.state.nc.us, and the county's, www.wayn egov.com/departments/boe/home-boe.asp.
In the May primary, Davis won 35.81 percent of the vote throughout the district's three counties -- Wayne, Pitt and Greene. Ms. Taft won 24.13 percent.
In Wayne, he won more than 39 percent of the vote, while Ms. Taft took home just shy of 12 percent.
So far, 540 voters have cast one-stop ballots.
Also in election news, filing continues for the one open seat on the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. So far two candidates have submitted their names -- Wayne A. Westbrook of Rosewood and Thomas P. Uzzell of Walnut Creek. Filing, which can be at the county election office, ends at noon on July 7. The non-partisan election will be held in November.
